a longggg day, beginning at 7:30 AM tour with a 2hour horticultural tour of the Houston Zoo Park with the main horticulturalist manager. Then to ddy's work to remind myself what all the ohter activities were. Back over to Miller Outdoor theatre for a cultural show on Bolivian dance while EAgle and I sat and danced on the green hill occasionally looking at little ant piles.
From there we walked over to the Museum of Natural Science for the Energy Fair, looked at rocks, shark jaws/teeth, thru microscopes at rocks adn teeny iny bity shells of little itty bitty life forms, a utterly nauseating lunch of MickyD's (ie,McDonalds), and then off again.
Driving over to the Outdoor fair @ Discovery Green, petted many snakes, sat in a kayak, looked at these really cool earth art globes, rolled on the hill and played in the nets/slides at playground, playing music on the pipes, and treating ourselves, not one, but TWO shakes.
already a long day.. evening setting in..but one more stop to go.. just had to convince the hubby it was worth it. Ta Da! and off we went, a 40 min drive over to La Porte for the delightful little "Fall Back" festival which I had liked so much the year before. Would it be worth it though?
Yes.
we let scott take a tiny nap in car, (as eagle had fallen asleep on way over and wasn't quite ready to get up yet either). And then as sun set, we woke up to begin yet another little adventure. We did a quick walk of the festival, got a balloon flower from the balloon guy, and then got ourselves some pretty good Mexican food at a cute little mexican diner open during the festival which had the coolest little, no big arse paintings on the wall. We walked back out to enjoy the rest of the festival stopping off at the old vs modern firetrucks on display. Eagle played for a long time in the original firetruck while we chatted with the fireman and learned all kind of little bits of trivia about their life. They let him have a ride in the original truck (their first truck after they had switched off the horses) before they put it away. LOUDD!!!!
That done we finally headed over to the music, snagging up a fun little ball that lights up when you throw it, some firecrackers that crackled when you threw them to the ground, a delicious little jar of jam, and mmmy spotting this cool little pottery stand that had these bowls perfect for eating with chopsticks as they had two little holes where you could slide the chopsticks thru instead of putting the chopsticks on the table.
We bought ourselves a funnel cake to share and sat down on the curb to listen to the texas blues band play while the little old ladies danced the night away in their line dances.
The world seemed open to me. People returned my smile and their faces lit up in response to mine. And even though I only danced a little standing as we walked along the festival, i let the music still flow thru my body as we sat on the curb. as eagle and i swayed and tapped our feet, and moved our hands to the music.
And I said aloud, it was like today was my birthday. I wonder if I could make everyday like this.. one big long wonderful happy celebration.
one thing that made the day even more enjoyable was a profound realization which I had after a two minute fight with my husband over a minor disagreement we had had all day,(even though i've had the realization most of my life).. with this realization I managed to quickly subside my flare of anger with him at that moment, and keep the day from ending earlier than I had wanted. Although, to be truthful, I didn't quite put it into words until later in the car-ride out to the next festival whereupon i smiled the rest of the night thru.
(Of course, i'm not been able to keep that sense of enlightenment stuck in my head enough to completely change HOW i interact with everyone when i get annoyed or irritated... i'm just simply not there yet.. tis' a shame.. oh well. but maybe someday. someday...;) )
the realization from my heart into words finally:
"After all is said and done, all any of us really want is just to be able to celebrate life and be celebrated."
I invite you to join me in this celebration.hug, smile., grin.
and honestly folks,
do you disagree,
Is this not what people are in search of when they go in search of life? And what they do, when they are living? Or when they go off to live?
Do you disagree?
